Gem Diamonds unveils Letseng Star

[miningmx.com] — GEM Diamonds on Tuesday announced the naming and unveiling of the historic 550 carat diamond recovered on August 19 from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho.

The group said the type IIa D colour diamond would be named the Letšeng Star. The diamond ranks as the 14th largest white diamond ever to be recovered. It was the fourth historic diamond recovered from the Letšeng mine in recent years, following the recovery of the 603 carat Lesotho Promise, the 493 carat Letšeng Legacy and the 478 carat Light of Letšeng.

“The diamond is a significant find for our company and the Kingdom of Lesotho, given its size and the high quality of the Letšeng Star,” said Gem Diamonds CEO Clifford Elphick.

“We are pleased to introduce another diamond to the history books and look forward to further significant finds from our Letšeng mine. In continuing to produce exceptional diamonds, the mine maintains its position as one of the great mines in the diamond industry.”
