Police move in to end Sishen occupation

[miningmx.com] — THE occupation of Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen mine by
some 120 striking workers has come to an end, the company said on Tuesday.

The strikers were removed by the police.

Kumba said it has regained possession of all the heavy mining equipment that was
held by the strikers since October 3. The company is assessing the damage and said
the mine would be restored to full production as soon as possible.

The strike started when an initial 300 workers seized the bulk of the mine’s heavy
mining equipment fleet and took up position on top of one of the mine dumps,
demanding salary increases of R15,000 per month.

The company earlier said that it lost around 120,000 tonnes in production per day and
had suspended deliveries to ArcelorMittal SA’s Saldanha operations.
