Strike to start at gold mines

[miningmx.com] — The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Monday that wage talks with the country’s big gold miners had broken down and it would give them a 48-hour strike notice on Tuesday.

“A strike is to hit the gold miners. We will give them 48-hour notice tomorrow,” NUM spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka told Reuters.

The strike would hit operations at South Africa’s big three gold producers, AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields and Harmony at a time when the bullion price is fetching record highs.
