[miningmx.com] — ANGLOGOLD Ashanti reported a fatality at its Savuka mine near Carletonville on Thursday, following a fall of ground accident.
“The fall of ground was triggered by a seismic event which occurred at about 12:20 (on Wednesday) during drilling operations,’ the group said. “A team from the department of mineral resources inspectorate is scheduled to carry out an inspection of the accident site today. Production operations have been halted.’
The incident was preceded by another fatality at Harmony Gold’s Doornkop mine near Randfontein on Wednesday morning, following a mud rush accident.
Harmony said investigations into the accident were underway.
