Aggreko, Shanduka set out IPP gas plans

[miningmx.com] – UK temporary power provider Aggreko and Shanduka
Group, the investment company, have set down plans to build a 107.5MW power
station using gas piped from Mozambique’s Temane fields. The power station will
supply Eskom and help it continue with urgent maintenance.

Eskom said at its second-quarter update last week that it had made advances in its
much-delayed maintenance programme serving 10 of 36 units.

The power station, which has the support of energy regulator, Nersa, as well as the
energy and public enterprise departments, will supply 92.5MW of baseload power to
Eskom and up to 15MW of peak power to Mozambique’s power utility, EDM.

“Southern Africa is experiencing strong and sustained economic growth and the
demand for energy is a major issue,’ said Rupert Soames, CEO of Aggreko. “Meeting
future needs is going to require an energy mix, and natural gas … will definitely be
part of the solution,’ he said.

The total value to Aggreko of the scheme is likely to be in excess of $280m over two
years, including fuel costs, the company said.
