MTN’s Nhleko to join Anglo board

[miningmx.com] — Anglo American has appointed Phuthuma Nhleko to its board as a non-executive director with immediate effect, the company said on Wednesday.

Nhleko is the group president and CEO of MTN Group, a role he has held since 2002.

“Under Phuthuma’s leadership, MTN has achieved significant international growth and is currently established in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East, with revenues in excess of $15bn in 2009,” Anglo said.

Nhleko would stand down as MTN group president and CEO at the end of March and would become the non-executive vice-chairperson of MTN Group and chairperson of MTN International, both of which are nonexecutive roles, the company noted.
