Zuma speaks out on nationalisation

[miningmx.com] — NATIONALISATION is not policy but a current debate, President Jacob Zuma said at a business function hosted by newspaper The New Age on Monday.

“We have policies in SA that are very clear and everyone knows our policies. We are equally a democratic country and we do not stifle debate. It’s a debate, it’s not a policy. Once it becomes a policy it’s a different matter,” Zuma told business delegates.

Zuma said authorities have been attracting foreign direct investment by travelling to various international investors and “campaigning” for the investments.

“We have created the enabling conditions for them [investors] to come here,” Zuma said.

Government and business should create enterprises to produce more jobs, Zuma said.

“That is why we have been encouraging investors and business to be able to do that. That is why we are discussing with the private sector and putting up the funds,” Zuma said.

“We cannot have a Zimbabwean situation in SA. We’re saying we should do things within the law,” Zuma said, responding to a question on whether the land restitution programme would end up being similar to that of Zimbabwe where land was expropriated without compensation.
