Zimplats suffers revenue drop

[miningmx.com] — Impala Platinum’s Zimbabwe unit, Zimplats, said on Wednesday its revenue had dipped 5% dip in the third quarter due to lower metal prices and sales volumes.

Revenue fell to $110.1m for the period ended September 30 from $115.3m in the previous quarter.

Operating profit was $49m, 13% lower than the previous quarter, Zimplats said.

Zimplats, 87% owned by South African platinum miner Implats, said that although ore mined was 5% higher compared with the previous quarter, metal production was 4% lower because of a planned seven-day maintenance shutdown of its concentrator.

Operating costs were 4% above the previous quarter due to an increase in mining fleet maintenance costs as well as the effect of the continued firming of the South African rand, the company said.
