Aquarius temporarily halts Kroondal

[miningmx.com] — AQUARIUS Platinum has temporarily suspended its
sole operating asset in South Africa, saying that its Kroondal joint venture with Anglo
American Platinum (Amplats) would be closed until Sunday.

Kroondal is located near Rustenburg in the North West, close to the mines where
Amplats halted work on Wednesday, citing high levels of violence and intimidation.

“Our decision to suspend mining operations has been taken to ensure the safety and
security of our employees and our assets, given the rising tensions and protests
within the regional workforce and communities,’ said CEO Stuart Murray. “Aquarius
has not been immediately affected by strike action this week and has not received
any wage-related demands from employees. We have maintained close dialogue with
union representatives and the authorities.’

Processing activities would continue as normal.

Aquarius earlier this year placed its Marikana and Everest mines under care and
maintenance due to price pressures in the platinum market.

“It is expected that operations will recommence from the evening shift on Sunday, 16
September, although the situation will be closely monitored,’ said the company.
“Aquarius Platinum will advise the market of further developments as these occur.’
