Northam’s Zondereinde reports death of miner

[miningmx.com] – NORTHAM Platinum’s bad run continued this month
with the platinum producer reporting the death of an employee following a fall of
ground at its Zondereinde mine in the Limpopo province.

“No other employees sustained any injuries in the incident which occurred some 2,000
metres underground,” Northam said in a statement to the JSE. “Work at the affected
shaft has been suspended following a Section 54 order by the Department of Mineral
Resources,” it added.

Northam reported on May 15 that there had been a smelter run-out at its Zondereinde
mine could affect income by some R300m in the current financial year. It would take
four months to rebuild the smelter following Friday’s run-out,” Northam said.
