Num accepts Amplats wage offer

[miningmx] — THE National Union of Mineworkers on Wednesday accepted platinum producer Anglo American Platinum’s wage offer, a union spokesperson said.

“The offers accepted are 10% for the lowest paid workers for year one and 8.5% for the highest paid workers for year one,” said Num chief negotiator Oupa Komane in a statement.

“In year two, the lowest paid workers would receive a wage increment of nine percent whilst the highest would receive eight percent with a CPI [consumer price inflation] valve of 2%.”

Komane said the union was happy to have concluded wage negotiations at Anglo American Platinum, where it was the largest collective bargaining agent, representing over 30,000 members.

The Num said it was still involved in wage negotiations for other companies in the platinum sector.

A dispute with Impala Platinum had been declared at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, while negotiations with Northam Platinum and Lonmin would resume in September.
