Thousands of miners, including victims of mine accidents pushed in wheelchairs, took to the streets of Johannesburg to demand better and safer working conditions on Tuesday, 4 December 2007. The marchers proceeded to the Chamber of Mines offices where they handed over a memorandum. Miners said that they had no choice but to call a strike because of the number of miners who have died on duty this year.
