[miningmx.com] — TSHIPI e Ntle Manganese said on Monday the group
has mined its first manganese at the new Borwa mine in the Northern Cape.
Tshipi blasted its first ore on October 10. “We are now firmly on the road towards
producing our first revenue,’ said CEO Finn Behnken. Tshipi Mining, chaired by anti-
apartheid struggle veteran Saki Macozoma, is a joint venture between empowerment
group Ntsimbintle and Pallinghurst subsidiary Jupiter Mines.
The R1.7bn development was commissioned in September 2011, and the company
aims to mine 2.4 million tonnes of manganese ore per year for the next 60 years.
