NUM to hand demands to Pamodzi liquidators

[miningmx.com] — MINEWORKERS affected by the collapse of Aurora Empowerment System’s financing plan to hand over a list of demands to the Pamodzi Gold liquidators on Thursday.

This comes amid news that the liquidators have received a bid from a Chinese consortium for the liquidated Pamodzi Gold East Rand and Orkney assets.

These mines are currently being run by Aurora, which was named the preferred bidder for the assets late last year.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Wednesday said more than 1 000 workers employed by Aurora would on Thursday hand over a memorandum of demands to the liquidators.

“The workers are demanding payment as well as that the liquidators should move swiftly to make the Aurora debacle history,” the NUM said in a statement.

Trade unions have been calling for the liquidators to consider rival bids but until now there have been no formal offers.

While Aurora has bid R605m for the mines, the new bid is reportedly valued at $51.5m.
