NUM gets wage rise from Transhex

[miningmx.com] — THE National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Thursday said it has secured wage increases of between 9% and 10% for its members at diamond company Trans Hex.

In terms of an agreement signed by the two parties on Thursday, workers in B1 to B5 categories will earn a 10% wage increment while those in the C1 to C5 categories will earn a 9% increment.

The wages will be backdated as from the beginning of April.

NUM initially demand 12% at a time when the dispute was referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

“We see this as a great achievement for our members,” said Peter Bailey, the NUM’s chief negotiator at Trans Hex.

“We are happy that Trans Hex has avoided the confrontational approach and decided to settle the wages outside the CCMA process,” said Bailey.
