Tanzania moves to aid small scale miners

[miningmx.com] – TANZANIA has allocated just over 100,000 hectares of
land to its small scale mining sector in an effort to promote entrepreneurial potential,
the East African Business Week reported.

“Looking at the contribution of the sector to the country’s economy as well as
individuals, it was vital for the government to allocate more land for small scale
miners,” Tanzania’s mines minister, William Ngeleja, told East African Business Week.

According to Ngeleja, the government has introduced significant changes to mining
policy to make sure that small scale miner benefits.

The significant changes to mining policy includes mineral rights and licenses for
dealing in minerals and will exclusively be controlled by Tanzania citizens and
corporate bodies, East African Business Week said.
