[miningmx.com] — Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi on Wednesday severely criticised President Jacob Zuma’s nephew Khulubuse Zuma, one of the owners of Aurora Mines, for donating election money to the ANC instead of paying his workers, SABC news reported.
Addressing shop stewards in Cape Town, Vavi reportedly urged workers to vote for the ANC and “swell its ranks so that they can fix its mistakes”.
Vavi said the workers had a better chance of correcting ANC’s mistakes, as they had done in the Western Cape.
Thousands of Aurora mineworkers last month vowed they would not vote in the upcoming local government elections, the SABC said.
They said they would abandon the polls over government’s refusal to assist in the recovery of millions owed to them by their politically connected bosses.
Vavi also criticised State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Sicelo Shiceka.
He reportedly spoke frankly about what he termed “embarrassing mistakes” committed within the ANC.
“This minister is the one that is employed to look after our security. He says I don’t know that my wife is selling drugs. One minister has reportedly gone to Switzerland to see a girlfriend, allegedly the girlfriend is in prison there for drugs,” Vavi was quoted as saying.
