Mines DG to step down, says Shabangu

[miningmx.com] — THE director general of the department of mineral resources, Sandile Nogxina, will step down at the end of June to take early retirement, Mines Minister Susan Shabangu said on Wednesday.

Nogxina has run the department for 14 years – the longest serving director-general in South Africa’s democratic era – during which time the government has tried to increase black ownership and management in the mining sector, the main pillar of economic power under apartheid.
