NUM wage deal with Implats on the horizon

[miningmx.com] — The National Union of Mineworkers (Num) said it could sign a new wage deal with Impala Platinum as early as Saturday after ironing out some issues over pension and housing allowances.

Num spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said on Friday workers had in principle accepted a 7.5% pay rise offer for miners in the high income bracket and 8% for those in the lower category, but some issues had yet to be resolved.

“We believe 7.5% – 8% (pay rise) is good because it is almost double the inflation (rate),” he said.
