Implats output unaffected by work stoppage

[miningmx.com] — Impala Platinum Holdings, the world’s second largest platinum producer, on Tuesday said its production remains unaffected by a work stoppage at its 12 Shaft operation in Rustenburg.

The company last week confirmed the stoppage, saying it was limited to a small
group of maintenance employees who embarked on a strike relating to a pay issue.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Friday said 50 artisans had downed
tools at Implats as they embarked on strike action over pay discrepancy between black and white artisans.

“A total of 34 maintenance employees remain on strike and the company continues
to engage with the NUM,” Impala said in a statement.

The company said a meeting was held with the NUM on Tuesday to resolve this
issue.

“In this meeting the NUM agreed that no racial bias in salary awards at Implats
could be established. An independent investigation into the perceived salary
differences related to relative experience and service was offered to the union,”
Implats said.
