Congo to tax in local currency

[miningmx.com] – THE Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is to impose taxes in its local currency in an attempt to ‘de-dollarise’ its economy within three years, said Bloomberg News citing the DRC’s prime minister, Matata Ponyo.

The DRC franc has been stable for four years and “we don’t have any justification for people to pay taxes in US dollars,’ Ponyo told Bloomberg News.

“We are in the process to de-dollarize our economy and bring people to use the local currency more and more,’ he said.
