MPRDA amendments may cause eco damage

[miningmx.com] – ENVIRONMENTAL groups have criticised proposed amendments to the Minerals & Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) which is due to be discussed in parliament from Wednesday, said the Mail & Guardian.

Citing groups such as the Centre for Environmental Rights and the Endangered Wildlife Trust, the newspaper said one amendment was for the mineral resources department (DMR) to monitor mining companies – a function they believe the DMR has not the capacity to perform.
