[miningmx.com] – SIBANYE Gold confirmed it was in negotiations with Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) regarding the potential acquisition of the platinum firm’s Rustenburg operations.
Neal Froneman, CEO of Sibanye Gold, was quoted on Miningmx last month as saying that the likelihood of completing a deal with Amplats had improved as there was a more realistic valuation of the assets on the table.
Froneman was also quoted as saying that the company was prepared to increase its net debt by about R9bn to R10bn in order to complete growth projects and acquisitions. “No further detail can be provided at this stage and it is possible that no transaction will be consummated,” the company said.
