
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s cabinet has approved the ratification of the Grand Inga Treaty with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a development that allows for construction of the first phase of the 40,000MW hydroelectric project.
BDLive said a treaty regarding the project had previously been signed by South African president, Jacob Zuma, and Joseph Kabila, the president of the DRC. The treaty now requires parliament’s endorsement.
“The treaty provides the framework for the facilitation of power generation from the Grand Inga Project and its delivery to the border between the DRC and Zambia,” Jeff Radebe, minister in the presidency, was quoted to have said.
