
[miningmx.com] – UKRAINE has bought 1 million tonnes of coal from South Africa after mining was disrupted owing to the armed conflict with separatist rebels in the eastern part of the former Soviet state.
Bloomberg News reported that the first batch of coal had been loaded citing prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Companies were arranging the purchase, he said.
Ukraine wants to reduce its dependency on imported natural gas since Russia cut off deliveries on June 16, said the newswire service.
