[miningmx.com] – UNIVERSAL Coal, an Australian-listed firm, said it had started coal exports from its Kangala operation in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province and had applied for more export entitlement through Richards Bay Coal Terminal.
Universal Coal has an export agreement with Exxaro Resources for some 100,000 tonnes of export coal, but also has about 51,000 tonnes of entitlement through the Quattro scheme, established for empowerment companies.
However, the company is applying for more entitlement in anticipation of taking ownership of the New Clydesdale Colliery (NCC) which it is buying from Exxaro. NCC borders Universal’s new project Roodekop.
