[miningmx.com] – ATLATSA Resources suspended operations at its Klipfontein open cast mine – responsible for a fifth of total company platinum output – following the death of a Mosoti community member at the mine.
The company, in which Anglo American Platinum is currently invested, also said that following news of the fatality, “… members of the local community set fire to community and contractor mining property and equipment, causing significant damage”.
“The mine has adequate stockpile for processing whilst the opencast operation remains suspended,” Atlatsa Resources said in an announcement.
