
[miningmx.com] – AN energy deficit and fears regarding changes to the mining code could see the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) lose its position as Africa’s largest producer of copper, said Bloomberg News.
Citing Simon Tuma-Waku, vice-president of the DRC’s Chamber of Mines, the newswire said that the country would produce less than 950,000 tonnes this year, off its one million tonnes/year target.
“This year Zambia’s production will surpass us and that’s because of our energy deficit,’ said Tuma-Waku.
