Zim reform will encourage IMF support

[miningmx.com] – ZIMBABWE could regain access to bilateral lenders were it to implement labour and regulatory reforms, said Bloomberg News citing comments by Christian Beddies, the newly appointed resident representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“Key reforms” identified by Beddies were clarifying the country’s indigenisation laws, relaxing labour legislation and restoring confidence in the financial sector. Spending on infrastructure would also encourage lenders.

The IMF and other lenders can’t provide loans to Zimbabwe because of the nation’s arrears, including about $142m owed to the Washington-based fund, said Bloomberg News. Economic conditions in Zimbabwe are difficult,’ it quoted Beddies to have said.
