[miningmx.com] – Clifford Elphick, a director of Zanaga Iron Ore, said he had agreed with joint venture partner, Glencore, to keep the company’s Republic of Congo project “ticking over” with minimum expenditure.
In an article by BDLive, Elphick – who is also CEO of GEM Diamonds – was quoted as saying that he hadn’t discussed Glencore’s “final attitude” towards developing the project and added the partners were not at odds over the strategy for the project.
Elphick’s comments come a week after Ivan Glasenberg, CEO of Glencore, doubted the project would be developed in his lifetime.
“Ivan has a particular line, which he’s had for a long time, but he’s a very successful and able businessman and it won’t be the first time someone changes one’s mind about something,” he said, adding Zanaga had a “plan B” in place in case Glencore opted out of the project.
