Illegal mining war claims six lives

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African police are searching for 15 gunmen who killed six people east of Johannesburg in an attack believed to relate to an illegal mining war gripping the area, said Times Live, a news publication.

On February 5, emergency services recovered the bodies of five illegal miners who died violently from an abandoned mine shaft in Benoni, said Times Live.

Five days later two rival mining gangs clashed in a nine-hour gun battle, using improvised bombs and machine guns at New Modder, outside Benoni.
