[miningmx.com] — ORGANISERS of the annual Investing in African Mining Indaba said on Tuesday the Minister of Mineral Resources, Susan Shabangu, would officially open the event on February 7.
“Minister Shabangu will officially open the Mining Indaba on Tuesday 7 February 2012,” read an event statement. “During her address the minister will provide an update on the country’s mining policies and other related initiatives. The audience, made up of financiers, investors, government delegations and mining professionals, will be the largest in the event’s history.”
Organisers said the 2012 Mining Indaba would feature more than 90 educational sssions, focusing on supply and demand expertise on specific minerals and other market trends. Around 40 African government delegations would be providing “public policy intelligence”.
“The International Council on Mining and Metals will host sessions on sustainable development featuring a keynote presentation from Dr. Mamphela Ramphela, chairperson of Gold Fields,” read the statement.
Other speakers include the International Finance Corporation’s head of mining Tom Butler; monetary historian Barry Eichenreen, as well as Robert Friedland, executive chairman of Ivanhoe Mines.
