[miningmx.com] – AMENDMENTS to the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) drafted in 2008 are due to come into law on Friday even though they will be superceded by subsequent amendments in six months time.
Webber Wentzel mining law expert, Peter Leon, said the amendments due for approval on Friday would create confusion and ran counter for President Jacob Zuma’s comments last week that South African mining should be stabilised.
“It creates confusion about the regulatory regime.. The changes to regulations will make life very difficult for mining and prospecting companies,” Leon told BDLive.
