Shabangu confident of wage settlement

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African mines minister, Susan Shabangu, said she was confident a settlement would be reached in gold industry wage negotiations that kicked off in Johannesburg yesterday.

“I’m confident that we’ll be able to reach a settlement that is acceptable to all parties,’ Bloomberg News quoted Shabangu to have said.

“As a former trade unionist, it doesn’t mean that when you start with 60% you’ll end up with 60%. It never happens.’

The Chamber of Mines, which is representing AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields, Harmony Gold, Sibanye Gold among others, said in a statement last night that all parties had “committed to sign an historic “house rules’ document on 15 July”.

“The objective is to ensure that negotiations are carried out professionally and in good faith,” said Charmane Russell, spokesperson for the chamber.
