RBCT sets new export record

[miningmx.com] — Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) broke its monthly export record set in December 2005 at 7.24 million metric tonnes, by exporting 7.38 million metric tonnes in October.

In a statement released on Monday, RBCT said year-to-date exports were at 52.09 million tonnes at an annualised rate of 62.37 mtpa.

Imports were 5.86 million metric tonnes, at an annualised rate of 68.62 mtpa.

RBCT said total import and export tonnage handled in October 2010 at 13.38 million tonnes also exceeded the total of 13.24 million tonnes handled in December 2005.

“The record truly indicates that the terminal is at 91 million ton per annum rate … it is also pleasing that the above records have been achieved while we have ‘teething’ challenges, especially, on the new off-loading plant and while other machines were on planned maintenance,” said RBCT CEO Raymond Chirwa.
