CoM, DMR seek centralised negotiation forums

[miningmx] — THE Chamber of Mines, together with the ministries of labour and
mineral resources, are actively seeking a centralised negotiation forum for the
platinum and gold industry.

Following a meeting between the parties on Saturday, the Department of Mineral
Resources (DMR) issued a statement saying the gathering “focused and agreed
mainly on the creation of mechanisms for a centralised forum to negotiate conditions
of employment’.

“This has arisen from the acknowledgement by all stakeholders that the current
status quo, wherein each company negotiates individually, has created opportunities
for non-recognised labour structures to make demands outside the agreed and
recognised forums,’ the statement read.

The executives of mining companies have been tasked to work on the modalities of
how this option would be implemented in the short to long term.
