African Barrick contributes $850m to Tanzania

[miningmx.com] – AFRICAN Barrick Gold contributed $850m to the Tanzanian economy in 2013, said East African Business Week citing the gold firm’s total economic and tax contribution report.

Some $531m was paid to employees while a total of $71m was paid by African Barrick Gold in Tanzanian taxes. A further $66m was paid on the incomes, purchase and property for employees, said East African Business Week.

African Barrick Gold has three mines in northwest Tanzania, Bulyanhulu, Buzwagi and North Mara which produced 641,931 attributable ounces of gold during 2013. It is one of Africa’s top five gold producers.
