Wescoal to extend Intibane colliery

[miningmx.com] – WESCOAL Holdings is to buy a mining right for just under R8m that will extend the life of its Intibane colliery by 2.25 million tonnes, the company said in an announcement to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

The mining right is being purchased from Mintirho Mining and will enable Wescoal to begin development of Intibane Phase 2 which will continue mining until 2016 the year in which the company has earmarked total production of four million tonnes a year.

It said in June that it would spend R42.5m buying plant that would enable it to begin production from another prospect, the Elandspruit coal mine, in the fourth quarter of this year.
