[miningmx.com] – THE Chamber of Mines of South Africa said it had written to mines minister, Ngoako Ramatlhodi, asking that he allow amendments to the Mineral & Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) to proceed.
Bheki Sibiya, CEO of the chamber, said in an article by BDLive that the mining sector was happy with the amendments which it had negotiated for at least 18 months prior to it being passed by parliament before national elections in May.
Ramatlhodi said on being appointed mines minister that the amendments ought to be reviewed especially in relation to controversial sections deal with oil and gas exploration and that he’d asked President Jacob Zuma not to sign it into law.
