[miningmx.com] – REGULAR load-shedding is on the cards for South African industry, according to Afrikaans-medium newspaper, Die Burger, which said the country’s power utility, Eskom, was desperately behind in its maintenance programme.
The availability of power stations has been 75% this year owing to unplanned outages. Head of sustainability at Eskom spokesman, Steve Lennon, said the utility was shooting for 77% availability, but another Eskom source told the newspaper 85% of availability was necessary in order to operate the fleet safely.
This makes matters very difficult for those managing the national control centre tasked with preventing a total collapse of the system by encouraging decreased usage or implementing load-shedding, said the newspaper.
