Petra gem may fetch $20m: report

[miningmx.com] – A 232-CARAT rough diamond recovered by UK-listed Petra Diamonds at its Cullinan mine in South Africa may fetch as much as $20m, said Bloomberg News citing a report by BMO analyst, Ed Sterck.

Petra’s Cullinan diamond mine, near Pretoria, yielded the famous 3,106 carat Cullinan in 1905 from which the Great Star of Africa and the Lesser Star of Africa were cut and subsequently set in the Crown Jewels of Britain, said Bloomberg News.

A 507 carat diamond, found at the mine in 2009, was sold by Petra Diamonds for $35.3m, the newswire agency said.
