Zille fears Russia nuclear deal corrupt

[miningmx.com] – HELEN Zille, leader of the Democratic Alliance, said the proposed $10bn nuclear energy deal between South African and Russia’s Rosatom had potential for “corruption on a grand scale”.

In an article by BDLive, Zille was quoted to have said that her party would use the Promotion of Access to Information Act to force documents relating to the deal into the public domain.

As part of the DA’s efforts to shed light on the deal, which will see South Africa receive about 9,600MW of power after 2025, the DA would also submit a Promotion of Access to Information Act application to the presidency “for all documents relating to the decision to do business with Russia by the cabinet sub-committee on energy security”, said BDLive in its article.

The sub-committee, which is chaired by President Jacob Zuma, is the body that is undertaking the technical work that will shape the nuclear procurement. As a cabinet body its work is not made public, said BDLive.
