Years before Medupi fully operational

[miningmx.com] – IT could take years longer to commission the entire 4,800MW Medupi power station, said Bloomberg News citing Anton Eberhard, a member of South Africa’s National Planning Commission.

“According to senior Eskom sources, the second unit is scheduled to come online 2.5 years after the first and then the subsequent units at six-month intervals,’ Eberhard told the newswire service.

“Due to political pressure to show progress, they diverted resources away from the remaining units to focus on getting the first commissioned,’ he said.

The first 800MW unit of Medupi is due to be connected in December but will not be fully operational until June.
