Platinum sector hit for three years: Baleni

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s platinum sector would take about three years to recover from the five-and-a-half month strike waged by AMCU earlier this year, said Bloomberg News citing Frans Baleni, secretary-general of the NUM.

“When we started we projected that we think 18 months things should be back to normality, we are looking now about over a three year period,’ said Baleni in an interview with Bloomberg News.

“The madness of 2012 has so impacted negatively on the industry, job losses, economy, broadly speaking, as well as the future,’ Baleni said. “Once we have piecemeal trade unions, you are weaker as organized labour.’
