Congo contracts being kept under wraps

[miningmx.com] – MINERS in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been criticised for not fully publishing contracts, including Dan Gertler’s Mutanda Mining, six months after the country joined a global resource transparency body.

Citing the Carter Centre and Congolese NGOs, Reuters said 62 contractual documents relating to 17 mining projects had not been made fully available to the public. Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation had also not published details of its project.

Pieter Deboutte, who sits on the Mutanda board, told Reuters it was the responsibility of the DRC government to publish the contracts. A senior official at the ministry of mines who was provided with an advanced copy of the report was not available to comment.
