[miningmx.com] – KENMARE Resources said it had temporarily repatriated South African employees from its Mozambique-based assets amid fears that xenophobic attacks in South Africa could provoke reprisals, said Bloomberg News.
This follows a similar decision by Sasol, the petrochemical firm, which moved to protect South African employees at its Mozambique facilities.
South Africa is facing the worst violence against immigrants since 2008, said Bloomberg News. The latest wave of unrest started in January, when six people were killed around Johannesburg.
At least seven people have died in unrest that started this month in the coastal city of Durban, it said.
