Glencore SA coal output surges in Q1

[miningmx.com] – GLENCORE reported a 4% increase in first quarter coal production from its Australia, Colombia and South Africa assets to 35.6 million tonnes with the improvement put down to expansions in South Africa, said BDLive.

South African export thermal coal production rose 14% while its domestic thermal coal output was 6% higher as Glencore ramped up its Tweefontein and Wonderfontein mines, the publication said.

Elsewhere in the group’s figures, the results were disappointing with a quarter-on-quarter decline in copper production to 350,700 tonnes identified by analysts as a key disappointment.
