Chile order would not hit Los Bronces output

[miningmx.com] – AN order by Chile’s SMA environmental regulator that Anglo American shut a waste dump at its Los Bronces mine would not affect copper production, said Reuters citing the UK-listed mining group.

The Donoso waste dump, which is used to store waste rock and is the only waste dump at the mine ordered closed, is not currently in use, the company told Reuters.

Chile had earlier fined Anglo 3.8 billion pesos, equal to $6.24m, over infractions including acid drainage at the waste dump. It also ordered the closure of the dump until “a definitive solution that permits the adequate drainage of acids generated by the project is implemented,” said Reuters.
