[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African gold producers would review a claim by the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) that its membership had been understated, said BDLive.
AMCU argued on June 23 during wage talks in Boksburg that it had more members than tallied by gold producers, dating back to 2012.
Amcu’s move to again raise the issue of membership numbers, which was meant to have been dealt with well ahead of time, could be a delaying tactic: a reason to declare an earlier dispute, said BDLive.
It could be a way to tackle an extension of any possible agreement — which is the only time union representation becomes a major factor in the gold sector talks.
