Eskom confirms equity talks with boiler suppliers

[miningmx.com] – ESKOM confirmed it had offered a renewal of boiler-serve contracts to three suppliers – Babcock, Steinmuller and Atcom – in return for a free-carry 30% equity share in the business relationship.

“The company is currently looking at various options for constructive partnerships with the boiler-serve suppliers, to drive Eskom’s strategic procurement approach,” said Eskom in an announcement. “These include improving plant and safety performance, providing greater insight in addressing the high level of unplanned boiler maintenance and enhancing skill transfer,” it said.

The contract renewals are for for April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2026 and are valued by Eskom at about R30bn. Eskom added that the equity participation negotiations were not a ‘shut condition’ of the contract renewals.
